Canon Denis Keane, a retired priest of the Diocese of Motherwell, Scotland died on March 29th in Clonakilty Community Hospital.
Canon Keane was born in Bawnbue, Drimoleague, on 8th August 1923 and served as a priest in Motherwell Diocese for 48 years, from his ordination on 5th June 1949 to his retirement to Ireland in 1997.
In this time he served in seven parishes, four as assistant priest and three as parish priest. He founded the parish of St Brendan’s in Motherwell in 1965.
Canon Keane retired to Rosscarbery in 1997 and continued to minister generously in parishes across West Cork, standing in for priests during holiday times and illness as well as participating in local meetings where his wit and direct approach were always appreciated.
