Today we celebrate the feast of Saint Finbarr – patron of Cork.
He came to Gougane Barra and lived there as a hermit for some time and then as disciples gathered around him he moved to Cork at the mouth of the River Lee where he founded his monastery which became a centre of learning. Today on this site stands UCC hence the motto “where Finbarr taught, let Munster learn”.
We ask the prayers and intercession of Saint Finbarr for the renewal of faith in our diocese…
